The STL...

After long discussion about where to go and for how long... we decided on St. Louis for a week of fun and relaxation. We started our trip on Saturday traveling south to Clayton, suburb of St. Louis. Ben's aunt and uncle live their with their two daughters. We were very excited to stay with them for a couple nights and explore the St. Louis area. Ben also has another aunt and uncle with a son and daughter in the area. Saturday night we went to Ben's cousin, Louisa's, musical. She is in middle school and we did not expect the wonderful show we saw!! She was great and the special effects and music were much better than any middle school performance I had seen before! After the show we met up with more of Ben's family and got Ted Drewe's. In case you have not had the pleasure of eating at Ted Drewe's, it is an amazing custard place only in St. Louis. It was SOOOO good!

Sunday we trekked over to the St. Louis Arch. We were there early, but had to wait for the next group to go up in the arch. We walked a few blocks away and ate lunch at Hannigan's, a pub with delicious food. After lunch, we walked around a bit and ended up at Macy's where we did a little shopping. We headed back to the arch and prepared for our journey up. If you are considering going up in the arch make sure you are not claustrophobic or afraid of heights because you will be confronted with both. They put you in these pods that go up inside the arch. The pods are tiny! They fit five people, but you are touch knees the whole time. It was worth it though because the view from the top was incredible! We have a few snapshots we took from the windows. After the arch, we headed back to the house. We had family dinner with all of Ben's relatives that live in the area. It was great to see everyone and catch up! He has a wonderful family and we always enjoy our time with them.

Straight down!

Monday morning we woke up to snow and rain... at the same time! It was GROSS outside. We got up and headed out to St. Louis Bread Company aka Panera (they call it this because it was founded in STL). We got some hot breakfast and coffee to start our day. First, we decided to go to Missouri Botanical Garden. I know, that sounds really stupid on a day like that, but it was actually a great decision! They had a special Orchid exhibit going on inside. I absolutely love orchids and they had a bazillion species displayed! We also toured the Climatron and Temperate House. The Climatron was like stepping into a tropical rain forest. It felt very nice on that dreary day. We saw really neat tropical plants and flowers in there! Check out a few of the beautiful orchids we saw!
The difference between the weather inside and outside!

Random seed stuck in Ben's shoe!
